Fashion Dolls

In this new age of fashion that has been brought on by the unexpected shutdown in society, it is pretty common now to see trends coming into popularity that you would not have expected to be popular seven months ago. One of them being fashion dolls. Like many people during the lockdown, I took to things from my younger years to keep me entertained, like childhood shows and fun crafts that I hadn’t done since I was eight years old. As an avid Barbie Doll collector myself, I used to love making clothes from pieces of fabric for the little dolls and even sewing outfits for my Build-A-Bears. With many designers and people stuck in their homes, creating outfits for their dolls was a good replacement for real people. Some designers like Jeremey Scott did an entire fashion show with dollies adorned in couture outfits as a way to solve the problem of fashion week being in the middle of a pandemic. It has become a booming business on Etsy, with many people designing mini couture for these mini-dolls. It ranges from the traditional Barbie Doll to more modern dolls like Monster High Dolls. This newer trend is a great way to showcase fashion while on a smaller level. Creating outfits for dolls can help bring inspiration for more outfits while also elevating the dolls’ style from a traditional dolly with cheap clothing to a fashion icon who only wears the best fabrics. Creating clothes small enough for these dolls takes someone who is very focused and meticulous in making clothing usually meant for people and making it ten times smaller while still looking just as good. Along with these dolls’ dresses, designers also make accessories such as bags and a newer addition, masks, for these dolls to complete the look. What was considered a child toy has now been elevated to a new and more fashionable level creating a business for those on Etsy and similar platforms.
